“Great Shop in Little Washington”
We stopped by this shop and were pleasantly surprised by the unique merchandise. I did some early Xmas shopping as well as picking up some goodies for myself. It is worth dropping in this shop if you're just driving through or staying nearby.

Owner Joanie is a delight. Wonderful diversified selection of home decor, fine art, rugs, gifts, pocketbooks, cards and many more categories. Almost impossible to leave empty handed. Without a doubt best shopping in the area. Worth a day trip if you live in DC area.

“I wonder if Patrick O'Connell has shopped here”
We love to visit Washington, Virginia. The primary reason, of course, is to stay at what we consider to be the most outstanding inn and restaurant in the country, the Inn at Little Washington. Owner/chef Patrick O'Connell has built an empire in 30 years and, in so doing, has put Washington on the map. What does it say when your restaurant is rated the No. 1 dining establishment in Washington, D.C., and you are located 70 miles outside of the nation's capital? O'Connell made his reputation in the kitchen but his lodgings are five-star, too. The furnishings in his lodgings are out of Architectural Digest. So I wonder if he purchased some of them at the chic R.H. Ballard Shop & Gallery, located just down the street from his home turf at 307 Main Street. We have made purchases at Ballard's every time we are in Washington. It is a go-to shop for glassware, table settings, table cloths, rugs, treys, home and garden accessories, fine art, even oil paintings and statuary, odds and ends you can't find elsewhere. On our most recent visit, we purchased two sets of exquisite glasses and an elegant pitcher. We always seem to find something intriguing and we never have been disappointed.

“Loved this spot.”
Bought a fantastic brass bottle opener from this little shop/gallery -- wish we had more time to spend but glad we were able to take a look in the short amount of time we spend in Washington, VA!

“Worth a visit”
Cute shop. Has a bit of everything. Rugs, glasses, lotions and soaps and lots of other "neat stuff," with an interesting art gallery in the basement.

Simply a lovely, upscale and tasteful shop, with well presented items in a welcoming wee village. The staff was helpful , welcoming and appropriately cordial : not at all overbearing or too intrusive.

“Small but Choice”
There are two floors to this shop, one is full of handsome good local paintings, mostly landscapes. The top floor has a bit of everything you want: yummy soaps, linens, kitchen implements with a French flair and lots of pots. I bought the most scrumptious scarf, with tassels, that I have worn non-stop since my visit there two weeks ago. They showed me how to tie it, and my only regret is not buying the red one too. Everything here is top quality and beautifully displayed.

“Great shop run by the nicest people”
What an interesting selection of items at this shop/gallery.
Upstairs, they have a really quaint gift shop filled with top of the line gifts. Downstairs is a local gallery showing some really great works of art.
Don't forget to go across the street and check out their other store. More unique outdoor items and sculpture.
Definitely worth a visit.

“Charming French docorative items”
Very fine housewares showing great taste, to us. Not inexpensive, but you are in Little Washington, which is not a Goodwill Store locale.

“Wonderful shop!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed February 6, 2015
On the cold February day when we visited the owner was in the shop. Besides the wonderful linens, the beautiful artwork, and all things French, it was a delight to speak with the owner who was welcoming and friendly. I found several gifts for special people and some things for myself too. Wonderful soaps, lotions, rugs, linens, gifts. Since I was traveling by plane, I was limited to what I could purchase and take home but I will shop their online site for other items that I loved.
A tip... I visited a shop with two locations, Creme de la Creme in Middleburg & Leesburg, VA, that had similar items but at a much higher cost. So my advice is that you should shop at R.H.Ballard if you are looking for French inspired items in the northern Virginia area.

“Quaint shop with some really great items!”
Cute little shop located on Main St in Washington, VA. There isn't a whole lot else to do there besides kill time while waiting for your reservation at the Inn @ Little Washington, but this is a nice little store in which to do that. They have a lot of really nice items in their shop, and a small gallery in their basement. The prices were reasonable and staff friendly. Worth popping in to get something unique to memorialize your visit.
