I waffled between 3 and 4 stars, finally settling on the higher recommendation. My initial concerns have improved. The turnover has improved. I think Mary is the only aid who is still working at New Haven since Jim arrived on March 24. In the beginning, aids quit, sometimes mid-shift, and many of them complained about the work load and pay. I don't hear that now. A med aid in both buildings is a huge improvement. One aid passing meds in both buildings is not satisfactory. The pairing of aids is a wonderful improvement, too. The residents love Cheryl, and she works so hard to find new and clever activities. And, of course, meal time is very important. Dynell is wonderful; I'm sorry Loyd is no longer at New Haven. I'm not sure about the new cook hired. She was not well received by the residents, my husband, particularly, after only one day. I have felt the menus to be lacking at times. The requirement to follow the recipes provided seems to be silly ( some combinations are ridiculous) and unnecessary. I realize all group homes have a tight food budget, but if one must serve pork, a pork loin (.99 a pound at HEB last week) should be the cut purchased. How about roast chicken? A turkey breast? Shrimp? All economical. When I see a new perspective family looking at New Haven, they invariably ask me my opinion... and then ask, "How's the food?" It's a huge issue. I'm sure you realize that. Meal time is community time and it should be pleasurable. Finally, and I'll get off this, sometimes my husband does not get enough to eat at night (particularly the first night the new cook was there). One can't expect a 6'7" man, weighing 240 pounds, be served the same quantity that many of the tiny women are served.

My husband has been in Assisted Living approximately 4 months. I am very satisfied with the care my husband is receiving and the staff has exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend New Haven to anyone in need of this type care.

Our experience with the New Haven family has been extremely positive. My mother's transition from her own home to an assisted living facility has been much easier than I could have ever hoped for. Everyone is very caring, very friendly and very helpful. And, as her daughter, I always feel comfortable and confident that when I visit and then leave, she will be well cared for. It truly is a family and I feel so blessed that my mother is a member of this special family.
