We heard about Leed e-bike kits from a friend. Our experience was very good. Mandy answered many questions and was helpful during the process. Only down side was that they no longer carry a quick-release!

It works great. I do have to peddle if the local hill is very very steep but without the motor, I would be walking. I do not use the motor to go fast but wind up using it intermittently so that I dont have to peddle constantly. I'm 57 and around 230 pounds and this motor does great. It is definitely an assist motor but only on uphills. On flat or slightly up hill, it will go on its own. For info, my 10.4 Ahr battery on average takes me 24 miles with my usage and weight. I consider it awesome.

Despite the difference in Time Zone, my requests and inquiries get answered promptly. Had some problem solving to do and they made the process less cumbersome with straightforward replies and possible solutions. Thanks.

After a couple of false starts, front wheel too small, missing cable for the 700 rear wheel, all finally came together. Communication and customer service is superb. Rode it 12 miles today. The system performed exactly as expected. Installation of the 6 speed freewheel was simple as was connecting the long cable need for a recumbent. I really like the pedal assist this system allows. You get as much exercise as you want, but not more. There is a bit of resistance when the motor is not on, but it's imperceptible. I am surrounded by hills, hard to climb on a recumbent. The Leeds wheel has solved that irritation. The key to battery mileage is pedal assist. Call me impressed.

I love the freedom and peace of mind knowing that I have that extra boost when needed to get up a hill, fight the wind or keep up (ahead) of my husband while riding with our 20 pound dog on the bike with me. It helps me get started and my husband doesn't have to give me a push anymore when the going gets tough. We are in our 60's and with this kit we ride bikes about 10 times more than we used to.
The reason for 4 stars, according to my husband, is because the wheel runs out about 1/16" which caused a squeak against the brake (he adjusted the brake and is OK now). The shipping box had everything sliding around in it and could have used more packaging material to protect the components.

Have had two of their 500 watt systems for about two years. They work great most of the time. Have had to replace a couple of the system parts. Have had some connector problems. No big deal! Just had to make sure the connections were secure. All in all I'd give the system a 7 out of 10. Company has been really helpful in correcting the problems. They don't make them. They sell them. They are only as good as the manufacturer that puts them together!

This is an amazing kit, I have it on a old specialized bike and it runs very good. It's always reliable and gets me where I need to go as long as it's not too far.

I hate that you have to keep your hand or finger compressed on the button the entire time. After just a few miles your hand cramps up and it's quite difficult to maintain. The battery life is the worst. I've gone less than 100 miles and have already had to charge it about 5 times. It seems like it has quite a bit of power when fully charged. But anything less than fully charged and it loses A LOT of power. The specs claim that it can go 15 mph unassisted on the straight aways. Which simply isn't true. I have a difficult time going 17-19 mph when I have the motor going and am using all my own peddling power on the straight aways. And forget about hills. It might help with some of the smaller hills. But anything above like a 15% gradient and the motor simply can't do it. Not to mention after putting just about 100 miles on the bike I noticed electrical sparks coming of the motor. Really just not a reliable product. And for the COST! I really wish I wou

Mom and I used to ride bikes together all the time. Two years ago she couldn’t ride anymore due to bad knees. I got her the 250 series wheel kit and we’re riding again! She still pedals and uses the power to help her out and on hills. She was so happy to be back riding that she cried. This wheel has given her the freedom to get out to our favorite nature trail, AND she’s getting more exercise than she has in 2 years. Thank you!

Customer service has been fine and shipping was prompt. I am a little disappointed in the kit, however.. I bought the 250W kit relying in Leed's advertising that promised the ability to zip up steep hills without a sweat. I find that I need to pedal as hard as I can while running the motor full blast in order to successfully climb some of Seattle's steeper hills. The steepest hills are still out of reach, even with the motor. Granted, I'm 73 and have lost some of the strength and wind I had in my prime, but still... Another annoyance is the location of the switch on the battery pack. I carry the battery in a backpack to prevent theft. It doesn't take much of a bump to accidently turn the motor on when I want off or off when I want it on. Also, some sort of battery charge meter would be nice.

It was easy enough to put together. And I feel like it works great on the first ride. But it states that battery lasts for 40 miles and I've gone about 60 miles so far and have had to charge it three times. Not only that, but the push button causes my hand to cramp no matter how I try to use it. I go about 5 miles and it really starts to bother me. It's just generally a poor design and loses power very quickly. I'm super unhappy with the product. Especially, based on the price I paid...

I have a commuter bike made by Priority cycles that I love, but just moved from the flat central valley of California to a town in Oregon and a house on top of a hill and found that my internal eight speed hub was not geared to get up the 15% ramps are you encounter trying to get back to the house after work or loaded down with groceries. I started researching electric bike conversion kits and after a lot of handwringing, eventually landed on the rear rack mounted system by this company.

I thought the price was reasonable compared to comparable systems I’ve seen elsewhere. Now that I have the installation done, I think it looks really slick, is low profile and not intrusive, and I like that it adds the functionality of adding a rear rack to the bike. BUT it must be said that the installation is not nearly as straightforward as the company will lead you to believe. If I could I would give 5 stars to the product but for the installation instructions, it would be 1 star.

A few notes, the kit does not come with any real instructions on how to install it which seems to me a glaring deficiency. When you go on the website there are installation instructions to be found, but they seem to spend as much time talking about how “it’s easy” and “should only take you five minutes” as they do actually explaining how to install the system (side note: when you’re several hours into this install process it’s pretty frustrating to keep seeing these breezy statements about how this should only take five minutes). When there are instructions related to installation they are in a seemingly random order, incomplete at best, and almost actively unhelpful at worst. Strangely enough the most challenging thing for me was the rear rack installation. There are as usual no instructions other than a single sheet of paper that can be summarized as “to install the rear rack, put the rear rack on your bike.” The pieces included are not labeled and it took me a rather absurd amount of time to figure out how to tighten down the rods between the rack and the rear frame. Other challenging parts were that the hub did not clear my front disc brake caliper and rubbed on it in a way that scratched the front hub and did not allow it to spin. Required retrofitting a bunch of spacers into the front disc brake to allow her to clear the new larger front hub with the motor. Another challenging but was getting the electronic box for the controls into the provided space in the rear rack mount. It seems to me this could be re-designed in a way to make it much easier to put that control box in that small space. In particular I found the orientation of the wires coming out of the control box to be rather incompatible with the centrally located opening in the rear rack plastic casing. The wiring comes out of the end of the control box, but then must double back and make a tight turn to come out that centrally located opening in the plastic casing. Made it very hard to get it in, don’t ever want to have to reopen it!!

But so far after riding my newly retrofitted bike around town for a week, I have to say almost all of my criticisms of the product related to the installation instructions or lack there of. It’s pretty awesome to have this extra power! The combination of having pedal assist and a separate on demand throttle for little bursts of extra power is really great. I have the 500 W system, which almost feels over powered, but is amazing for getting up those very steep greater than 10% hills, and on flatter ground can always be turned down to low pedal assist levels for just a little added boost. My bike is reasonably heavy now with the addition of the battery and motor, but it hardly seems to matter when I can pump out so much wattage which more than compensates for the added weight.

Overall the experience of riding with the ebike conversation is that it is like hammering around on my road bike on flat ground (easy to go 20-25mph) but I don’t arrive at work sweaty and out of breath! The on demand throttle is awesome for getting going at stoplights or getting momentum up a small hill. And the longer steeper hills that lead up to my house and prompted me to look at in E bike conversion for my commuter in the first place have been completely tamed by this motor! I still feel in my legs as though I climbed a hill at the top which is nice, but the motor (particularly set up to maximum pedal assist level of five) takes the teeth totally out of these climbs, even if weighted down with groceries and wearing work clothes.

I can’t speak to the systems durability/longevity as I have only been using it for a week, but so far I am very impressed and happy with my new set up. If you don’t want to buy a new electric bike, or have an existing bike you really love but want to use less for pure exercise than for functionality, these kits are really nice.
