I have to say that the shipping was fantastic: everything showed up in a timely manner, packed well, and frozen. I only ever ordered chicken and beef. The chicken was great. The beef that was edible was tasty, but the cuts were horrible. I ended up with at least a third of every steak left on the plate because it was inedible gristle or silver-skin. Grass-fed is great, but this stuff was too expensive for cuts like that. If better cuts were available and I could customize my order rather than being on a cycle of railroaded cut options, I might have kept going.

Jeffrey - I am sorry you were disappointed by our beef but I wanted to make sure you knew that You CAN customize each order with your subscription - it's the Farmer Dan Meat Box and you have over over 30 choices of beef, chicken, turkey, pork, soups, and even pies. So you can choose certain cuts this month and different ones for your next order. We know our customers want flexibility which is why your box can be customized each time. I ordered from Hearthstone Farms based on the morals and standards that guide them. My ham is for Easter therefore I have yet to taste this product - but the personal accompanying literature and obvious care exhibited makes me sure of the quality. (I'm hoping those happy and peaceful cows on the postcard are not slated for steaks).

We ordered the large box with 20 cuts of meat for a family of 5. The delivery arrived 2 days later and all meat was still frozen. I like that they use biodegradable packaging although each piece of meat is wrapped in plastic. Not sure how else they could wrap meat without increased cost. The meat was great quality. There wasn’t any cut that we did not like. We will order from Heartstone Farm again. I only gave them 4 stars because of the cost. It is definitely more expensive than purchasing in the grocery store. We are trying to order our meat this way because we want to eat meat that is in its most natural and nutritious state but I am not sure how long we can maintain the cost.
