Yesterday I did my pre-winter coop clean and organize. Part of that included adding my new small Nest Box and cleaning my original larger Nest Box. The original scrubbed up clean and ready to go back in the coop in 5 minutes with the help of a scrub brush, and we popped the new box on top of a couple of milk crates and screwed it to the wall of the coop in 5 minutes. I added the second box because occasionally I have a cranky hen that tries to keep the other girls out of the box. With two there will be a back up for when I haven’t yet gotten out and evicted the broody biddy. My Best Nest nest boxes are a major time saver and egg saver. I bought two other similar “roll away” type boxes and a couple hens quickly learned to duck their heads under and break eggs. They can’t do that with the Best Nest boxes. Sometimes trying to save a few dollars costs you more in the long run. In this case I highly recommend buying the BEST NEST box and saving yourself money, time, and aggravation.

works great. It arrived quickly and just in time for my young pullets to start laying. I am still working on training them to lay in the nest. I am getting eggs in it every day. I am using peat moss for bedding. It creates a bit of dust and when the wet egg comes out of the chicken and onto the best nest box grill, the egg picks up this dust and it looks like someone drew pencil lines onto the egg. It is hard to clean off. I might need to switch to a different type of bedding. This is a great product!

Hello Janet, If you wipe down the egg trays everyday after egg collecting, this will eliminate the dust lines on the eggs. A wet rag and a bucket of warm water will help get the job done quickly.

Nest box was easy to assemble and is lightweight for hanging.
I am using it for hens who are just starting to lay; they have taken to it easily since they are not learning to nest in a different place.
I would like to see a model that is just a little longer and accommodates more hens without having to mount two boxes in my coop.
It's nice to have clean, unbroken eggs. I hope this prevents egg eaters in my flock.
