I thought the start was better organised this year, great atmosphere. I was disappointed to have navigate around people doing the 10k, walking over the Itchen Bridge three abreast. I was trying to go sub 1.40 and missed it by 10 seconds, so having to slow and weave around the walkers had an impact ! Other than that great course, great event.

Great atmosphere, but the organisation - three races sharing the same course at one time - needs addressing to avoid some of the chaos experienced this year.

I thouroughly enjoyed their Southampton Marathon from start to finish. It was well organised with all necessary facilities easily accessible. The route was excellent - not too flat, not too hilly and with lots of variety along the way. The levels of support around the route was great and really helped to keep me going. I will definitely recommend this one to members of my running club and plan to do it again next year.

I am not a very experienced runner (a 1yo one) and took part to as few as 8 races at most.
ABP Southampton Half Marathon has been absolutely the best and my favourite up to now. Everything was very well organised and thought to deliver the best to runners, spectators, volunteers and to the city itself - which is an underestimated gem! Thanks to Southampton, I have started running when joining the Sweathshop Running Community (SRC) located in the city centre, and running in "my" city for the half marathon, among friends and loads of amazing people was such a positive experience! I also managed to get a new personal best, after my half marathon in the New Forest in September 2016!!

I loved every moment of the ABP Southampton events! The finisher medal and tee were just awesome too.

Ps: great cooperation from all the restaurants in Southampton which gave (well-deserved haha) discounts to the finishers of all events! WOW!!

Looking forward to next year ones... maybe my first ever full marathon?! Who knows :)

MASSIVE THANKS,
Antonio.

The Southampton 10K was a great event, I think it was a shame that the 20K did not go through the football stadium though. Having the Itchen bridge at the end was made even more challenging due to the sheer volume of people on it from all 3 distances, maybe next year it should be at the beginning again or the timings of race starts changed so that all 3 races don't converge on the bridge. Medal was fantastic, but no 10K t-shirts left by the time I finished as boxes mixed up. Nice touch was an ice-cold (non alcoholic) beer at the end.

Registration process was easy and had lots of communication and information before the race. Race pack arrived on time and necessary details. The day was well organised with lots of volunteers and Southampton being very supportive. Only criticism would be Itchen Bridge! TWICE! :-)

Good race, and the beat the bridge with the additional timings is great fun. Well attended and supported.

The 10k start was a complete mess, though, no-one explaining where the start was going to be, the chip start, and everyone boxed in by barriers far too narrow, causing significant traffic jam. Because of the poor organisation / lack of space at the start, this meant there was a very poor structure to the initial starting place ability wise, so the early sections of the race were a bit of a mess with incorrect pace groups causing a lot of chaos.

Only final point - every runner I've spoken to all said their gps had the route at well over 10k, including mine and my wife's, so I hope the course was accurately measured, as it didn't feel like it. Certainly the km markers on course were all over the place, and not close to accurate.

We enjoyed it though despite the gripes, and will be back next year.

Well organised. Great medal & t shirt.
Nut free snacks would be good - bring back crisps please!
10k start was too narrow & pacers weren't in the right place.
1 water station past 7k mark was not enough & too late

Really enjoyed this run, I did The 10km circuit.
Very well organised, lots of space at the start and interesting route with excellent course marshals who were really supportive. Challenging over the Itchen bridge, like the "beat the bridge" aspect and lots of local support.
Clear finish channel really motivated with crowd close and giving vocal support.
Good exit area and again friendly supportive helpers.
Finally who can't give a run 5stars if you get "FREE BEER" at the end ! Good tonic !!
Thanks

Suggestions for improvement :
1. Have a few volunteers / martials close to the main areas and start finish lines where runners collect, so that we could ask questions about where to go / the location of things. Just providing a map and expecting everything to run smoothly is bad organisation.
2. After the warmup for the half marathon, there should be an ordely led procession to the start, instead, it was a mess were runners and spectators were all mixed up. For a "prestigious" event, this wasn't good enough, and could have been safety implications.

Enjoyed it, it was hard but worth it. Couple of points: There was some confusion at the points where the different courses combined as to which way to go, the marshals did a good job but there were some confused runners still.

You need more medical people in the race village, my friend was suffering from signs of dehydration and blurred vision and it took us about 20 mins to find a paramedic for her (she's fine now).

Other than that lovely day, wonderful people, great event, I look forward to it next year.

Excellent race. Loved the closed roads, the wonderful finishers' shirt and nice medal. Pre-race information could not be faulted.

I ran the half (towards the front of the field) and the experience on Itchen Bridge was really bad. There were so many slower marathoners and 10k'ers to overtake on the bridge that it was hazardous and difficult to safely negotiate this section. I would happily enter the event again if this Itchen Bridge congestion problem was fixed - if not then it would prevent me entering again.

Postive and well run event.
Would have benefiited from more speakers in the start area - especially towards the back

A nice race. Did this one last year as well, and prefer the direction of last year's course to this year's. The Itchen Bridge at the end is a bit of a killer, even compared to the hills you get when the course is running in the other direction. The St Mary's Stadium section is a bit of a let down, though. Nothing going on in there, no music or spectators, which would have livened things up a little, otherwise it just seems a bit flat. Race is well supported locally, which is nice. This year the finish area seemed a bit muddled, perhaps because there were more runners in three races. Nice to see the medals were different, depending on what distance you ran (I don't like the ones where, say, there's 5K & 10K on the same medal). The non-alcoholic beer at the end is a nice touch, too.
