Wow! Really well designed and well made. Looking forward to clean eggs!
I love this door. It is the second one I have purchased. The first one on my main coop I have used for o er a year now. This new one is going on a secondary coop used for sick or new birds. I do have one door latch that will no longer “lock” the door when shut. One side the latch extends to lock but the other does not. I ha e tried to fix it but with no luck. I still feel it’s a good product. Would just like to get the latch to work to ease my mind. But still love the product.
Works great for my application. Mounted it to a 30 year old coop. Contemplated building my own nesting box, so glad I invested in Best Nest. Worth every penny!
It is great, assembly went together well. very well made product. I will surely buy more when the time comes to expand. thank you
I love my new nesting box. My eggs are so much cleaner and in one spot. Very sturdy build made to last!
The nest box is wonderful. I simply took down my old nest boxes one evening and put the new one in their exact place. I sprinkled some herbs in the new one & they took to it. It's been up for nearly 2 weeks, I love going out & gathering clean unbroken eggs. Great product, I have approximately 60 hens, all using the same box.
It is well made and easy to assemble. I'm disappointed that I am not able to configure it the way that it looks in several of the website photos, tho. Have had it set up for a week and only half of the girls have been laying in it....I expect that will improve!
Easy to put together and very durable. Just as expected.
We're liking the our new nest box.
My chickens love the nesting boxes. Great construction and easy to put togsther
Well built east to assemble
Hens were eating eggs in nest boxes but after two days with your box haven’t lost one. Wish I had known about you when I built the coop. Thx
The door and opener work great together. I like that you can change there light settings for closing the door and add a timed delay after the light sensor is set to close the door because I've installed the opener inside a barn with less light than outside. The interface is also pretty intuitive.
This nesting box shipped quickly and was easy to assemble. So far I have most of my hens using the box correctly and my eggs are so so clean. I just need to get the rest of my hens to think its as amazing as I do and we will be on our way!
I've been using this for several weeks now. A major improvement over my old nesting box. Now the eggs are clean and easily gathered.
Incredible quality product I couldn’t be happier. No more cleaning cleaning eggs, no more straw, no egg eating! I’m happier chickens are happier. I highly recommend.
This is the second rollaway nest box we have purchased. The first one performed well, and when we added a second coop, this was the logical choice. My 10 yr old daughter assembled it pretty much on her own with a bit of help from dad, so easy to assemble. We added a linear motor arm on the side to open on close the perch on a schedule.
Takes awhile for chickens to adjust.
My chickens will not lay eggs on these nest pads. I have tried everything.
I purchased the large rollaway nesting box about two months ago. It has worked amazingly. I had six chickens to start with that were eating all of there eggs for almost a month. Three or four days after I received the nest box, it stopped completely. I added 18 more chickens and they too adapted perfectly to it. Excellent, well built product. Thank you.
I put the nesting too high at first so moved it down to 18 inches off the ground and the hens are laying eggs in it now! The rollaway feature is great at keeping the eggs safe and clean.
The boxes are working great, the chickens like them and my eggs are now safe from egg eating chickens. My eggs are also much cleaner which saves me a lot of time and gives me a better product for the market. I would highly recommend the boxes to anyone and everyone, they work great for me and my free range chickens took right to the boxes.
Works great only problem is some of my chickens eggs are to large to roll down to the storage area
It’s wonderful. My chickens are safe and the door works great. Installation was easy too!
I am very happy with my purchase so far. Assembly was a little difficult, as some of the screws were difficult to get to and I had to dig out the right size wrenches. It would have been nice if the assembly tools were included. The box seemed sturdy once assembled and the hens started using immediately. So far so good. I would purchase again. :-)
Effective, but too expensive in my opinion.
Easy to assemble and very sturdy
Love the new nest box. I had issues with a hen eating and breaking eggs problem solved! Thank You
Eggs are finally clean. No more egg eaters.
Very good quality. Easy to assemble. Now just to get all the chickens trained on the new nest boxes.
Highly recommend. It did everything it promised and was fairly easy to install. Although the instructions could do with some work. Some of the instructions aren't very clear and you have to refer to the picture.
Its working well. Just don't put batteries in it until its all setup and ready to use or your string will tangle.
Works as advertised. Very efficient. It took a week for the hens to start using it. Now they love it!
Well made, everything went together smoothly. Extra nuts and bolts were handy and appreciated.
Update: 7 hens almost 6 months old. After removing the curtains, they began laying inside the box. Still have a couple found on the floor. Called support and turns out, a comfy floor can make it inviting to lay eggs. Today 3 out of 4 were inside the Nestbox. Will chalk it up to new layers atm, hopefully the floor egg was just a new hen (first eggperience) Review doesn't allow photo attachments. :(
We haven’t yet installed it yet
Great, we have added these to our roll-away boxes that we make ourselves and our hens had no issues with transition. Very easy to clean, reduced breakage and keeps eggs clean. We do use sand in our coop so at times the eggs can be dusty, but a dry wipe and they are good to go.
very nice door / gadget, though the light sensor we didn't quite get to suit our needs. Using the timer feature instead.
I have the large box in my main coop. Keeps eggs clean and away from hens preventing most damage. I rarely have to wash eggs! I have had many people ask me how I am able to keep my eggs so clean without washing. 100% recommend Best Nest Boxes. I recently purchased 2 medium boxes. One for each of my new mobile chicken tractors. I chose Best Nest boxes over the less expensive ones found elsewhere due to the quality. These will last forever.
This is a fantastic nest box and I can’t wait for the hens to start laying! (Currently they are only 3 weeks old)
I love it. Good quality I’d buy another if my bitchmade chickens would lay in it .
The hens that are laying in this box are leaving nice clean eggs. I have had my hens locked in that shed for almost a month to attempt to get them to almost all lay in there. I am still, having roughly 1/3-1/4 of the hens laying in these boxes. I tried removing the flaps, placing cardboard in to create 3 diff nesting boxes. While still hopeful, I doubt I'll be able to get many more too lay in these boxes. If you know anything I can do to spur them to lay in these boxes, I will try it.
Great item, easy to put together by myself. Not thrilled with the mounting wings and holes. Hard to access with a drill when installing. They work, just need a better, more accessible design. Haven't offered it to my chickens to use yet since the coop is still a work in progress.
The box was easy to put together. My hens are a little hesitant to use it but they are older. I feel the new pullers coming up will really enjoy it.
When I ordered my nest box, I did not order a second nest pad. I realized having an extra clean pad was a very good thing. Glad I have two.
The box went together perfectly, great hardware and design. My only negative thought would be for those doing roll-out style, the slope makes mounting into a coop awkward as the roof now slopes into the structure and leaves no mounting options. I removed my home built nesting boxes to replace with this. But I'd say our egg production has almost doubled, as we're not throwing out cracked/eaten eggs and our time spent washing eggs has gone to almost none.
Wonderful works like a dream
Wish bottom was a little mor ridged to help on I level surfaces.
Very Happy wit my Best Nest boxes. I have one large unit and one single small unit. Works as advertised. Chickens go in, do their thing and eggs stay clean and roll into holding box. Also put a stop to my egg eaters !! Very happy camper.
This is investment I am very sorry wasn't made four years ago. Sure could have saved many hours cleaning eggs.
I just installed it and it’s already not working. Very poor string design.
Wonderful product. Just got to get my girls to use it!
It works adequate
They don't work. Not enough room left for the eggs to roll into the tray.
simply fantastic! love that it can roll front or rear. well built. arrived timely. chickens adapted to it quickly after having a very different nest box set up prior to this.
Great Idea just that Chickens do not know the difference and are not using in it! so it seems a waste of money and work, now I have eggs all over the coop on the floor and dirt! I opened the flaps to let them see it is open, I placed them in it to investigate, it was placed exactly where the old boxes were, but the chickens do not like it. Update 6,10 2021; after two phone conversations with a wonderful lady teaching me how to get the hens to use the box, all I can say, it is not practical, I have a full time business, run properties, large family, I bought these items (Box and Popper) to save time and effort not spend hours daily looking for ways to "Train the birds to only lay in the boxes", this is the biggest sour joke I have been played!
Absolutely love this box. It took a day or so for my flock to adjust and I had to take all the bedding out of of coop so they wouldn't lay on the floor. I also took the red flaps off until they started laying in it. I think it scared them at first. But the eggs roll really nicely and I don't have to even wash my eggs anymore. It was definitely an investment. I got a medium and have 9 hens. It seems like a good size for them. I wouldn't want to go smaller.
TL;DR Version: I does what it says it does. Installation was good. The bar however was to high for my big birds, made my own about 2 ins lower. Hens hated it took about a month to train them to the box. Shipment: Was quick and made it within the week. Box was damaged. One of the sides was bent badly. Took a star off as the box should be packaged better to prevent damage. I had to hammer out the damage to get it back so it would fit correctly. Build: Took about 30 minutes to put together. The instructions made it easy. However; as a note go to the end and read the instructions first. I had the roost bar in reverse and the instruction have you take it apart and reverse it. would have saved me 10 minutes if I knew that from the first. Install: Installing it to my coop was easy I already had a table to set this on and i used the ear holes to mount to the wall. as long as you have a level and something to screw in to the wall this step is easy. Issues: the retractable roost that blocks the nest. I had to remove it. it was to high up and my chickens just could not get the hang of trying to duck and step down into the box. For me my old setup already had a bar which was about 2 in lower then the boxes and this solved the problem for me. Since my chicken never sleep in the nest I have no need to block the boxes at night. USE: The first 2 weeks my chickens refused to use the new nest box. they insisted on laying in the corners as i use a deep bedding method in the winter with about 14 in of hay, leaves, grass etc. after that they refused to even lay in the hen house anymore and had moved to the horse barn to lay eggs in the manure. I was not amused. Training: As part of training these hens I removed ALL deep bedding back to hard dirt. they still laid in the corners. I blocked the corners. They UNBLOCKED the corners. :/ eventually I took empty water bottles and buried them in the spots they wanted to lay in. it was so uncomfortable they finally stopped. instead they just started laying all over the ground. Just ANYWHERE but the box. I tried using fake eggs in the box and tied them down. still failed. I tried allot of ideas My final solution was to fill the box with deep bedding hay. Instantly they loved it and all started laying in the box. GREAT. except now the eggs do not roll out they stay in the hay I added. So for the next 3 weeks i took a hand full of hay out each day. i did this until there was none. I also confined them to the coop and run for 3 weeks. (No more horse barn for them.) until they had been trained completely to that box. Finally they are about 85% laying in the box. i still have a few rebels but I am ok with that as long as they do not train the others. If that happens I guess we have chicken dinner. They finally all lay in the box without hay and the eggs roll out. Modifications. some modifications I made. for the area you collect eggs I have mine in reverse pointed outside so I do not have to go into the hen house to collect the eggs. because the bottom of the egg collection area is open i had to block that. 1: because in the winter the winds blow in and it freezes the eggs and the hens 2: It was letting in to much light through the day and my hens are late layers. once I blocked that and it was dark after that they really took to the box. I just used cardboard so i can still easily clean out the nest boxes. Overall: Still worth it to have clean eggs, I will be upping my chickens another 20 this year and should have a great opportunity to make all the money back on this box in egg sales. Note if you have older chicken it will be difficult to break them of their habits. I would recommend calling the best next box support. They had some really good suggestions (like the water bottles) others I came up with on my own. But they can help and where friendly. For the company: Would consider some ideas or maybe a separate product to help with the wind solution, light bleeding in, and maybe a FAQ on the sight for dealing with stubborn hens.consider some different packaging ideas as my box looked like it got ran over and many bend parts. I would maybe make it more clean in the instruction to read the end of you are going to build it for reverse.
Works has advertised!
Do not buy this unit in Canada because shipping and duty and exchange rates will double the price. You are better off using paint trays because you are going to have to train your chickens to go into these boxes whereas the paint trays are open for the chickens to see. I would say these are a complete waste of money.
Love not worrying about the safety of our girls. Plus they are out before we are up and able to start their day without us opening their coop for them.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE HENS TO LAY THEIR EGGS IN THE BOX
Very good egg box we love it
I liked the old style more but still good
This rollaway nest box was an awesome addition to my coop. Keeps the eggs nice and clean.
It's awesome, the hens learned how to use it almost immediately. Beautiful clean unbroken eggs. What more can I say!
Loving the nest boxes!! My eggs are finally clean. Some of the girls still refuse to lay in there but hope they get better. The perch popper is working some days and not others so we are tying to assess if it is user error or the device. More to come on that later.
Works great
This thing is awesome :)
Very nice and easy to put together
Works as advertised
Beautifully made, easy to assemble, my hens (150) will not use them.
Great door. Easy assembly and programming. Our chickens work hard and deserve an automatic door.
Great nest boxes! No more dirty eggs and egg eaters no more! Work great! Had 50 old hens set in their ways that took one day to start using with a little straw to help and then had 50 new hens that began laying and all started in the boxes with no problems! Will be buying more!
Chickens were eating eggs. It got to the point I was only getting a couple of eggs per day from 12 layers despite checking on the hour. Small Reversible Rollaway Nest Box completely solved the problem, and it only took a few days for ALL the birds to learn to use it. I'm relieved.
Love these nesting boxes. They work well and keep the eggs much cleaner, less breakage and easy to gather. Hang them at waist height.
This works great, though the bossier hens, 4 weeks in, are still really bitchy about sharing space with others so we've lost more eggs than usual to pecking and scratching. I'm hoping the next flock, which will start with a communal box, will be more comfortable with them. The eggs come out cleaner, are easier and quicker to collect. Mine is on a mobile coop, we make sure to park it so the box is on the north side in the summer heat and we've draped it with reflective shade cloth, which keeps the eggs cooler. I'm still skeptical about how many hens will happily share the 48" wide box (we have 26 in there now), but our new flock will be 45 birds and we'll see how it goes! As we continue to expand our flock, we are definitely sold on this next box!
these are great and the chickens pile in!
I ordered this Perch Popper to be shipped to me here in Canada. Once I paid exchange and shipping it was close to $300 dollars. I think it is a bit pricey. It also took several weeks to deliver. That said, it was easy to install and once I figured out how to set it - not intuitive to me - it has been working fine. I am now able to sleep in past dawn which is a good thing as the days are starting pretty early at this time of year.
Absolutly love it!
Alot of the eggs crack.
Really liked the assembly and fit, having some trouble getting the birds to use it though, after removing the old boxes the chickens now lay on the floor, we have fake eggs as well, they just need more time, very good product
Very nice product. Delivered as expected. Assembly straight forward.
My chickens took to the box right away and it's super easy to clean.
My 38 hens will not use this box at all as of now.. Hoping that will change because this was an expensive investment for our coop
Very simple to put together. Very sturdy yet lightweight enough that I can move it by myself (150# female). I would highly recommend it to anyone who is even moderately serious about raising laying hens.
solid construction, eggs roll away great. chickens have to get used to it at first but warm up fine.
Highly recommend this nesting box! It took our girls a little while to accept it, but once they did, they queue up (with a lot of cackling) to take their turn. We are ordering a second one for their outdoor "summer home" in our orchard (where they spend their days during Spring/Summer/Fall). We located our first box close to the floor in their indoor pen, and one of our ducks has even jumped inside and laid an egg! (Not quite sure how she negotiated it.)
The bolt that goes in each end of the egg lid was a little tricky but with patience and using some needle nose pliers I got the job done. Other than that little snag it all went together very easy and smoothly. My hens aren’t laying yet but when they do it is going to be so nice to collect the fresh clean eggs.
After the adjustment period from our old handmade nest boxes the best nest box has significantly reduced our egg cleaning. I would recommend this product for anyone with layers.
Well built, convenient and easy to install in my chicken coop.
The Nest Box has been great. I also purchased the purchase popper and it took me about a week to get it adjusted correctly but now it is operating just fine.
I haven’t used them yet but the quality seems good and assembly went well. I would recommend them.
Life changing! I can’t believe I went 6 years without these boxes!!! So simple to assemble and the eggs stay perfectly clean! The perch popper is amazing! No more chickens sleeping in the boxes!!!! Love them so much!!!! Quality is amazing!!!!
The best box itself is very well made; however, our chickens refused to switch to using it and were laying their eggs all over the coop floor instead. I eventually just put their old nest boxes back in the coop. I am going to use this for another coop where the chickens haven’t started laying yet. Hopefully they will learn how to use it from the beginning without issue.
