We have only had them installed for 2 days. So far I think they are absolutely awesome! My wife spent a lot of time cleaning eggs this has cut that time to zero. We also had an issue with egg eaters and that has been resolved with the rollaway boxes. We should have a 100% egg retention with no cleaning as soon as all the girls figure it out. Wish I would have bought this two years ago.

Easy assembly; I have mounted it in reverse where the eggs will roll backwards. A slot was cut in the side of a mobile coop (an old steel livestock trailer) with access to the rollaway box from outside. Spring chickens so no eggs to see if it works as it should yet.

Love the design of this nest box! My chickens aren’t laying yet, so I can’t say how well they will like it. But it was easy to assemble and mount. Quality is good! I really like that it can be set up so that the eggs can be collected from the back without having to go in the coop!

We’re pleased with the quality of this box. We did have an issue with the eggs not always rolling down, rather getting stopped by the heavy knap of the plastic pad. We’ve had better results by putting the pad in upside down. That way the eggs definitely roll, however the pad has a tendency to slip down and that can cause the eggs to get caught at the bottom. May think of a flatter AstroTurf pad. Easy to assemble and mount, and hens took to it right away

The older hens don’t want to use it. They would rather lay eggs on the floor. I’m trying to use some pine shavings and keeping the flaps up without a lot of success. So far I have collected less than 6 eggs in two weeks from an average of 22 eggs a day. To say the least I need some advice

Give it some time! When I first introduced this to my 10 ladies I immediately had buyers remorse. They wanted nothing to do with this. I found that I had to warm them up to using this nest box. You can’t just introduce it and expect them to go right to it. The instructions include many different ways to introduce this nesting box. Follow them and be patient. It took my ladies about 3 weeks to start using this. I wish I would have gotten the large though. I love it though. Clean eggs, I don’t have to worry about getting the eggs everyday and I shouldn’t have to worry about broodiness this year!

I have not opened the box, I am waiting to get a run, which I am having a problem with. I find something I want and they are out of stock. I am in the process of moving and we are having problems getting every thing in order. Hopefully things will settle back to a more normal situation soon. But I will say that the product came quickly. Much sooner than I expected.

Great product. We installed it so the collector is on the outside of our chicken coop, makes it so easy to get the eggs and no tromping through poop. We removed a siding panel, framed in support upright studs and attached it on the outside of the stud. Then cut a hole for the rollaway and put the siding back on, adding extra screws around the box to keep siding secure and hold the box flat. Also added a support piece underneath. Whole thing took us about 2 hours, including assembly, framing work, and cleanup. Hints for training hens to use the box were helpful. Almost all of our 22 hens use it after two weeks. Putting old boards down in the coop in their nesting spots worked well. I love how clean our eggs are. I don’t wash them anymore and my customers like that.

This nesting box is the best for clean eggs. I have over 50 laying hens and they all love this nest box. Probably not as much as I do since I don't have to wash the eggs anymore.

Instructions could be a little clearer. How about an online video to watch boxes being built? Also wish you would keep the screws and nuts separated when you ship them as opposed to just dumping everything in one bag. You probably have them separated already, just have to keep them in their appropriate bag. Then dump all the individual bags in the larger bag you are currently using. Have not installed in the coop yet, but at least it's put together!

This box solved all my issue. My hens where eating their eggs before I could collect them. Now, the eggs are always waiting for me whenever I get to collect them. And they are always clean.

The one page instruction was essential. Without the great pictures on it I'm not sure if I would have been able to install it. It took longer than 15 minutes to install but not more than an hour. I think. Then I used a long piece of angle iron and some tech screws to securely mount it to a long wood bench used for sitting on. So it wouldn't wobble. Then placed it up against the chicken mesh. With it pressed up against the chicken mesh I was able to use some wire snips and easily make a perfect cut. So the chicken eggs can be retrieved without going into the cage. Still have to go into the cage to close the bar at night and n the morning to open it. I wasn't sure if this would work so well but it has. I wish I bought this a long time ago. Well worth the money.

Fits nicely into my coop and was fairly easy to assemble. Not all of my hens are convinced yet - they were used to straw lined wooden boxes - but they are getting there. A couple are laying eggs outside of the box. The eggs from chickens using the box are definitely cleaner. I am also hopeful that the box will be inhospitable to mites, which were an issue with wood.

The large nest box went together fairly quickly and looks solid and functional. Hoping the girl birds like it as much as I do!

Updated review, I give it five stars. It works as intended. My hens had developed some bad habits that I had to break. It took me about two weeks to block off other areas, but they finally started using this nest box. Works very well now that they use it. My previous review is below: Well built, very clever design. Assembly wast straight forward. The quality of the nest box and ease of cleaning is remarkably good... BUT, I cant get my chickens to use it. I removed all other alternatives, any other dark spots. They just lay in the middle of the coop now. I rebuilt the coop with this box as the only alternative to lay in. If they laid eggs in it, I would give it top marks. Maybe I need to start a new flock.

Worth every penny. Chickens took to it quickly. Eggs are clean. I would not only recommend it, after using it I would recommend against having chickens without it. Thank you.

A couple of years back, we purchased two used Best Nest Boxes from a retiring chicken rancher, so we already knew we wanted more of these gems as our flock grew. We are so spoiled having clean eggs without needing to wash eggs daily. We ordered 4 large Best Nest Boxes with the "longer" assembly time. Assembly was easy as described. I do advise, however, to pay attention and follow step ONE which says, "bend this little tab out before you start assembly". We forgot that step on the final two boxes and regretted it! We have our laying houses as separate buildings from our roosting houses. When we added about 50 new hens and a new laying house and let them lay in milk crates, about 10 of our Americanas moved over from the Best Nest house to the milk crate house Most eggs found on the ground in the first house had been blue so we knew which chickens had moved to the milk crate house. Last week, we introduced 2 of our 4 new Best Nest Boxes to the Milk Crate House. Day one, with milk crates still an option, about 1/2 the eggs appeared in the Best Nest Boxes. Day two, when we removed the milk crates, we found only three eggs on the ground! All the rest were in the Best Nest Box. We are still finding about 3 eggs on the ground (2 brown, 1 blue) most days but they are not setting up a nesting spot, they are just randomly dropped. One day this week, every egg was in the Best Nest Boxes. Oh, and 2 broody hens have stopped hanging out in the laying house! We have 200 more pullets which will begin laying mid-May to early June. They will have their own laying house with their own Best Nest Boxes from the beginning. We will have to report back!

I was worried about my egg quantities dropping off while getting the girls used to this box. Let me start by letting you know why I bought the box. I have 1 nightmare hen that eats every single egg she finds before us. Yes I thought about making a nice chicken something 😉. Instead I chose to fix the issue by buying this box. I did read the comments before buying and I was really worried and was about to not buy it. Long story short I have a full time job and able to manage 6 horses, 1 goat and 30 hens. I left 1 old laying box available after installing this. I also put 1 fake egg in the new best box. It only took me 2 mornings to get the girls laying in the new box. Here’s what I did. When a hen went in the 1 old box I left out to lay I would give her 5 minutes so she could start the process. I would then remove her and put her in the best box. Once that process starts they finish. I repeated this and all the hens are now loving the box. What I’m saying is you need to put a certain amount of effort into any changes you make. This change to a minimal amount of effort and way easy. Take a couple hours and introduce your girls to this box and you won’t have any problems.

Nest box is great! Super easy to put together even with doing it by myself. The only negative I would say is either I missed the step to bend out the hole tabs that you are supposed to mount it with, or it didnt include that in the directions. Either way I got it built less than 40 mins and husband installed it for me the next day. The lady's are loving it. Thanks best nest box

It took a while for them to get used to it. We had to put shavings and block off the back and tape up the "curtain". But now they are all pretty much laying in there ! And the eggs roll down and are nice and clean! Great box!

I had two problems with conventional nesting boxes; egg eating and dirty eggs. With the roll away nesting box, both problems are solved. Chickens can no longer peck at the eggs and the eggs are nice and clean when I gather them. I will buy another one when I expand my flock.

Pretty easy to assemble. Awesome concept. I love it. The mat inside is very hard. Initially my hens didn’t like it and I swapped it out for a softer grassy mat. Now they’re mostly warming up to it however I still have few that are hesitant.
