While being No. 1 on Google is still king, increased emphasis is placed on social profiles and reviews in order to provide a more robust snapshot of the business itself and its reviews.
“Over the past year, we’ve been working to improve the product reviews we display in Search. Our first updates were designed to, among other things, help ensure reviews come from people who demonstrate expert knowledge and first-hand research about products. [This latest] update builds on this work to ensure that product reviews in Search meet certain criteria.”
Again, this should not surprise anyone in this space, considering Google’s goal has always been to be a trusted advisor in search. Additionally, their focus on natural and conversational language in search has been a driver for years.
Additional insights from Google:
- Include helpful in-depth details, like the benefits or drawbacks of a certain item, specifics on how a product performs, or how the product differs from previous versions
- Come from people who have used the products, and show what the product is physically like or how it’s used.
- Include unique information beyond what the manufacturer provides — like visuals, audio, or links to other content detailing the reviewer’s experience
- Cover comparable products, or explain what sets a product apart from its competitors
This information is certainly no surprise to most of us in the industry. Inbound marketers have known for years that Google makes special allowances for the amount of content a site has, the relevance, consistency, and “quality” of content, and how much authority the author of that content has.
TrustSpot’s well-rounded voice of customer platform allows you to gather much more contextualized information than the majority of “review” platforms that compete in the space. And to the well-seasoned marketer with a limited staff, our solutions can be just the partnership you are looking for.
